How to select fabric length for aerial silks performance?

In most cases simply call the studio owner and ask for ceiling high. Performance organizers should contact responsible stage staff to find out for you the height to the bar, motor or beam from the stage. When you know your rig point height simply multiply it by two. You'll get the length your fabric needs to be.

But do not forget: it's necessary to add about 6ft (or two yards), it's approximately 1.8 meters, to the total length to allow for some fabric on the floor. It doesn't metter if you rig your fabric to the point with motor or without it, for training or performance - the silks must have some extra fabric on the floor at it's highest point. It will allow you to do wraps on the silks without running out the fabric.

If you place your fabric order in America, after you measured the height, do not forget to convert the length from feet to yards, as most of the sellers use yards. If you have a 15 foot rig point, you would need 10 yards of fabric. With recommended extra two yards on the floor you would purchase 12 yards of fabric. With 20 ft rig point you would need just over 13 yards. And again, with recommended extra two, you gotta purchase 15 yards total.

If you are purchasing a set of fabric that you want to work in multiple venues and spaces, it's better buying 14 yards of fabric. This is a standard, most common length of fabric that will work in most places. You always can cut the extra fabric to avoid big folds and piles on the floor.
