If players had hoped for an idea of where the sequel to the game (set to release the 19th of April) will have them go, this motion picture does not deliver. Also, it brings an unsatisfactory conclusion to one of the most hated villains as well as the general expansion.
Zovaal has long been made to be the ultimate villain and has been portrayed as the ultimate villain, with Blizzard having made the character the ultimate mastermind behind massive swathes of World of Warcraft lore, all the way from Arthas changing into Lich King, to the creation of the world-destroying Burning Legion. Players have long wondered what the real motives of the character have been in the process. In the end, having Zovaal's infamous 4D-chess strategy be all to set up a previously unknown villain in the background (a character that Jailer played for multiple expansions) feels like an insult to what could have theoretically been an interesting villain.
Instead, the Jailer is seemingly nothing more than an entrance point for an even more formidable opponent, which makes reality that he's integrally linked to key World of Warcraft -universe defining moments all the more frustrating for fans.
The cinematic revealing the fate of Zovaal is only one of two cinematic sequences that take place during the final battle of the First Ones raid The other is about Alliance Zovaal's former king Anduin Wrynn. The film left the fans looking for more particularly with regards to how it dealt with the the iconic World of Warcraft villain Arthas.
This year's World of Warcraft expansion will be revealed on April 19. and the first official announcement of the Blizzard's World of Warcraft mobile game scheduled for May.
Additional details about the upcoming expansion are scarce as of now, with Blizzard in their blog posting only saying that it's "excited to share with you the work we've been doing and what the next chapter of your adventure in Azeroth will take you next."
The final stage of the last raid for this game's current Shadowlands expansion, known as the Sepulcher of the First Ones is set to be unlocked on this coming March 8. Blizzard didn't allow players to play the final battle on the game's public test realm, which means boss mechanics, as well as the latest story information (including hints as to the story's direction will take us next) are still a mystery.
