Warlords of the Draenor the next expansion in World of Warcraft , was only just announced on Friday, however the follow-up to it is in development, Blizzard tainment president Mike Morhaime told Polygon in a new interview. Morhaime said the company will increase the speed of the release of fresh content in the MMO in order to ensure that players return on a regular basis.

"It's going to depend on us and our development team to continually look at ways to make the game more interesting and stay current," Morhaime said. "And seek out new ways to sustain engagement in the game. We view expansions as an enormous opportunity to do this.

"We know that we're required to release them on a faster cadence than we have previously," he added. "So we're investing in the team and our resources to to accomplish that."

Morhaime said last week during an Activision Blizzard earnings call that Blizzard has more resources dedicated toward World of Warcraft now that they have ever had in the history of the franchise.

"We should also start looking further down the road and begin planning for the future," he said. "We've already started working on the expansion after this warlords game [Warlords of Draenor]. It's not something we've done previously. We've been doing each expansion one at a time, sort of a very linear content creation model We've also looked into ways to parallelize that. As a result, while we're working on the expansion we're also looking at the new one."
