After being benched in games on Sunday there was some concerns about as to whether Geno Smith would stay the starting quarterback of the game in New York. This speculation was put to the wind -- at least for now -- on Monday when the team announced Smith will remain New York's starting quarterback.

The 23-year-old has had an up-and-down first season, however, he has been struggling in recent weeks. Smith completed 9-of-18 passes for 79 yards with just one interception on Sunday . He was substituted for Matt Simms. Smith has already thrown 19 interceptions this season which is the highest number in Madden NFL 24. New York, however, remains in contention for the playoffs and it is expected to give him a chance to get back on course. In addition , Simms is on the roster. the veteran David Garrard is also on the team.

Madden NFL 24 apologizes for officiating error in Washington-New york game

There was a bit of controversy Sunday night when at the conclusion of the game , a referee mistakenly signaled a first down and then the chains were moved. The chains were reversed the following play and it transformed into fourth down. Madden NFL 24 vice president of officiating Dean Blandino said the crew was negligent and should have stopped the play to fix the issue.

"In the situation in which there is a clear confusion regarding the status of the down play should have been stopped prior third down and the correct down communicated to both teams. This should have happened regardless of the fact that Washington didn't have timeouts and it was inside of two minutes."

Jay Cutler "week-to-week"

Jay Cutler is reportedly targeting the Week 14 start date for his return from his ankle injury. However, his situation for playing next Monday isn't known until after this week. Bears head coach Marc Trestman said Cutler remains "week-to-week."
