It's the start of a rather convoluted redemption arc for what was previously among World of Warcraft 's few strong female characters. The character was once regarded as vicious and smart, her character development following World of Warcraft is now mostly being ignored, attributed to the evil part of her split soul.

It should be noted World of Warcraft is no stranger to redemption arcs, one of the most famous examples being Illidan. He played the role of the main antagonist in WoW's Burning Crusade expansion and later ended up saving all of the universe at the close to complete the Legion expansion. What the game's approach will be to the rest of Sylvanas the story's arc remains to be seen, but there are a lot of gamers, especially those who liked the more dark version of the character, are likely in a state of confusion over what seems like a sudden change of direction. It also puts players who have resentment for Sylvanas throughout the years in an awkward situation, as they must now accept that her actions were not entirely her fault. She was a victim of her soul's shenanigans.

WoW patch 9.2 is set to conclude the Shadowlands storyline, and brings with it a new region to explore, a brand new raid, and the return of classes-based tier sets. This patch does not come with a release time and is under testing in the Game's Public Test Registry. If the patch does be released, it will do so as Activision Blizzard continues to deal with multiple sexual harassment lawsuits and investigations and employee walkouts.
